Bag Borrow or Steal has the entries up for The Independent Handbag Designer Awards, and citizens can now vote for the audience favorite:
Our entry is The Naugahyde Bag by Renee Parrill. Please vote for it.
This bag is going to New York on Monday. It's a finalist in the Independent Handbag Designer Awards. The awards will be at the New York Historical Society, and we're pretty excited about that because of Night at the Museum (Ben Stiller is funny. I love the part where he grabs the tiny Owen Wilson and says, "I will manhandle you Jedediah!").
On a completely different subject, my husband gave me Dreamweaver CS3 for my birthday. I've made it my business to understand it inside and out, but hard-won tips and tricks are always welcome.
I was just looking for sewing books on Amazon, and this title was suggested as one I might be interested in. THAT IS MY BAG ON THE COVER! I'm so excited! I submitted that design last summer, and I got a letter from Lark, saying the release date would be June of 2008. I had no idea it would be listed anywhere yet.
I originally made that bag almost two years ago, and put photos of it on Flickr. I sold that one, but the one on the book cover is still in the envelope Lark sent it back to me in.

This bag, made by Randi, is currently in an Art and Technology
exhibit at OSU. She documented the bag's construction, made a
photoshop collage of the process, and then sewed the image onto the
face of the bag. The body of the bag is made from a new vinyl we've
recently acquired. It's very shiny, like patent leather, but it's much
easier to work with. She also has photoshopped herself into a Cyborg.
Kate Black sent me two large, fantastic pieces of patent leather. I made her a bag to show my appreciation.
It's cold, and we just got about fifteen inches of snow. About this time of year, I start to feel like winter is an overprotective parent that won't let me stay out past midnight. The snow is lovely, but I've got shit to do. As a consequence of all this nasty weather, my desire to make it outside to my workspace is less and less. I've been in my house, crocheting Pansies and having tea parties.
I finally finished this (after about a year), and now I'm working on an afghan. Historically, I've always hated afghans, and thought they were ugly. I've recently changed my mind.

I made these little gems for my kids, partly because they needed them, and partly because I felt guilty for stealing their DSes to play Phantom Hourglass
(I did just catch the Legendary Neptoona, however).
I listed them on Craftster, and they were subsequently picked up by dsfanboy, which I was pretty excited about. The comments on them on fanboy made me laugh, mostly because someone remarked that they were too shiny, and they looked like a girl's purse. They are for two girls, and Link himself requested they be extra shiny. I can take a few hits for some good advertising.
Randi has been smoking out a new messenger with snakes on it. We both really love the design, but she says this is her prototype, and the next one will be more symmetrical.

The snakes are appliqued using gold, glittery vinyl, and vinyl designed to look like ostrich leather.
I have three bags that need lined today, but I have to get lining. One is a new design, so I'm anxious to get it up.

I made these two (or three?) years ago using a pattern I got from Martha Stewart. These were on the cover of her Halloween issue of Living.
It is now Halloween crunch time, meaning that this week I will be making costumes non-stop. I really love Halloween, and I'm planning a huge feast-like dinner. I also consider November 1st as the start of Christmas, so I'm excited about that too.
I finished this backpack last night:
Randi made another Stop, Drop and Roll in a different color scheme:
While I'd like to get a few bags knocked out this week, I think that will be put off in favor of Halloween and such. I want to figure out a way to hang pumpkins in my yard with clear thread (or wire?). That is all.

Randi got this shirt from the most fabulous and fantastic Carla, of Supastarr. She loves it, wears it all the time. You should go buy one right now.
It's going to be snowing soon, and I'm nervous that I haven't gotten enough done when the weather was nice. I see jobs in every room of my house, and shit that needs done outside, too. It's causing me anxiety.
I made a Naugahyde dog bed today for Tilly, my elderly and moldy English Bulldog. It had to be Naugahyde because she has a tendency to pee on her dog bed.
This is Tilly.
Randi made this messenger. It's constructed from black-bronze vinyl with flame appliqués.The bag below it is a custom order I'm working on.
We received a fabulous package today from a Mr. Paddy Hartley, and we couldn't be more thrilled. Paddy makes wallets, and he sells them on Etsy. I have to say, that I am really astounded by how perfect they are. They're smooth, and the craftsmanship is tight and perfect. Paddy does a stellar job, and y'all should check his shop out.
He'll also be in New York soon, speaking about Project Facade . Paddy's like totally famous, and you should check him out while you still can.

Now I just have to try to keep my mouth shut until Christmas.
These bags represent what we've done since yesterday. I also had some really thick leather, and I made two wallets from it. I like them well enough, but the leather was so thick, it caused the machine to skip stitches on the corners, so I won't be listing them anywhere. I've decided that I won't sew that leather anymore on the machine. It seduces me every time I go to buy purse hardware, and I must remember what an asshole it is.
I'm starting some Halloween planning. I love Halloween.
