I love New York, and all its craziness, but I could never live there. You have to fight for everything: parking spaces, food, seats, road, bathrooms... THERE IS NOWHERE TO PEE IN MANHATTAN. I came back to Ohio appreciating very basic things, like the grass in my front yard, parking spaces, the freedom to buy a backyard pool, or have a barbecue. What if you want to go to a pumpkin patch in the fall? Or pick your own strawberries?
I was beyond impressed with New York, despite my homesickness. It's a marvel of American ambition, for sure. Just don't drink too much while you're out and about, because as I mentioned, there is nowhere to pee.
It is now Halloween crunch time, meaning that this week I will be making costumes non-stop. I really love Halloween, and I'm planning a huge feast-like dinner. I also consider November 1st as the start of Christmas, so I'm excited about that too.
I finished this backpack last night:
Randi made another Stop, Drop and Roll in a different color scheme:
While I'd like to get a few bags knocked out this week, I think that will be put off in favor of Halloween and such. I want to figure out a way to hang pumpkins in my yard with clear thread (or wire?). That is all.
"I have...a terrible need...shall I say the word?...of religion. Then I go out at night and paint the stars."
-Vincent Van Gogh
I really like that quote. It seems to pose a question and an answer at once. I'm a big fan of pairing opposites. I always discover that they aren't really opposites at all.
This is a simple box purse made from tapestry and cotton velvet. It's from a scrap I had, and I honestly feel better not knowing how much the tapestry was per yard. If I knew, I never would have made anything out of it.
This ship is made from a book about Viking ships. Randi made pulp from the pages and then sculpted it into a ship. The sail is a page from the book.
Today I was *this close* to figuring out the meaning of life. It slipped away. I hate it when that shit happens.
"It's a good thing you pitched that necklace, because I wiped my ass on it."
Speaking of, once, my sister and I were shopping, and I had a Coke. She asked for a drink, and I said, "I wiped my ass on the straw." It was crowded, and there was a guy right next to me. He moved away, and said something to his wife about us being assholes.
That polka dot stuff reminds me of the mother's dress in The Cat in the Hat. I have always loved that dress.
My goals here were to streamline the designs while maintaining features and functionality. I also wanted the seams to be as bulk-free as possible. I'm happy, but there is always room for improvement. I did make a pattern off of the wallets, so I can reuse it. Most of the time I just start cutting, and have to redo it all if I want another one like it. Having a pattern saves time.
