Purple – Blue - Black
This is the final round of project spectrum and I am going to pull out all the stops for it. The last round of air left me very non-plussed as the colours of yellow, white and gray do not really get me going and I don’t really know anyone who loves those colours in that combination either. However I love purple, blue and black and purple is my all time favourite colour (which reminds me that there used to be a tradition of purple sock Fridays – clearly this needs to be re-instated). This means that more inspiration is available and more yarn is owned with which to carry it out.
The first thing I am already working on are the uptown boot socks in
the sully colourway from Hipknits.
I think that the dye job on this yarn is excellent. There is minimal pooling and the colours blend into each other in a really pleasing way. However … I am pleased that I was given this yarn for writing an article because if I’d had to buy it I would have been very disappointed with the base yarn. It is loosely spun which makes me very nervous that it will not wear well. J’s socks in the similar yarn are holding up ok after two wearings so we will have to see on that. There are also (so far) 3 knots in the skein – not good. I have had trouble trying to get hold of items I have paid for from this company in the past so I am not going to try and return the skein just cross my fingers and hope.
Secondly I am making the Mohana Shawl by Smoking Hot Needles out of sage rose cashmere by Knitwitches. Although it is supposed to be pink and green this yarn is actually more like pale blue and mauve and I much prefer it this way. This yarn (although fragile) is a complete joy to work with and the contact I have had with the company in the past is wonderful, they are responsive, very customer focussed and highly knowledgeable. I had a query by email and later that day I got a personal phone call following it up!
I have two more Watery plans in my mind – firstly I bought this Mirasol Sulka yarn ages ago and have always planned to use it to make the lace up gloves out of Alterknits. Now is the time to finish them in time for the Autumn as I am sure that they will be perfect for wearing out and about on walks.
Secondly the Tree Jacket is one of only 4 stand alone purchase patterns I have. I have the yarn (Lanark pure wool in Bramble) and I am just waiting for drier, cooler weather and finishing off J’s Durrow before I start this.
All this is just my watery project work and planning. I also want to make 2 more pairs of socks before Christmas and a stole as gifts.
Task no 27 is to read the work of 12 poets I am not already familiar with. Now I am going to clarify a little here as this really means that I should read a little bit about the poet's biography (even if it is just the entry on Wikipedia), understand the style of poetry that they are associated with and read a collection of their works. This was partly sparked by the fact that I have one volume of the collected Works of the Earl of Rochester I have never touched and one volume of the complete Works of Byron I haven't really ever gotten into.
The list of poets I want to read is:
The Earl of Rochester
W H Auden
Emily Dickinson
Christina Rosetti
Shakespeare
Byron
(to be added to)
The following are off the list because I have already read collections by them or been to see them performing live
Maya Angelou
Simon Munnery
Carol Ann Duffy
David J
Jean "Binta" Breeze
Sylvia Plath
Ted Hughes

The Golden Turd
Good luck, Golden Turd!
Sorry. We couldn't resist the irony. Truth is, you have no luck. When you think things are looking up, you always find the turd beneath the gold. Face it, GT: you would lose betting on a one-horse race. Luck? Why even check your luggage? You know it won't even make it to the same continent as you. You're doing okay just getting your seatbelt hooked correctly, much less catching favorable lights and traffic conditions. If the cook hocks one goober into Friday's gallon tureen of chowder, guess whose bowl it will find? Your fortune cookies' staleness is matched only by the fortunes they convey. While you sleep, a gang of ninja black cats march back and forth across your floor. At the end of your rainbow is the leprechauns' Port-O-Let. It's a miracle your cells can remember how to oxidize glucose, so don't press your luck hoping for winning lotto numbers. Please, PLEASE don't ever sit on a plane with us.

Following our desires for exclusive and desirable hosiery, there is no better place to start than the new Luxury Hosiery Collection from Falke.
Goddess like softness and comfort will be created with combinations of the finest cashmere, pure silk and Sea Island cotton. The luxury collection features tights, stay-ups, knee highs and socks, and trust me ladies when I say these hosiery are divine.
My favourite items are by far the stay-ups. The Falke Aretha stay-ups feature richly embroiled golden jewels around the top band. It is pure temptation-guaranteed and to-die-for sexy!
The German brand Falke was first started as a knitting company by Franz Falke-Rohen in 1895 and had only 8 employees. In 1928 his son Franz Falke Jr expanded and entered into the world of outerwear. Finally, in 1958, Falke began its hosiery production and has been known internationally for its outstanding hosiery quality. This is not just hosiery we are buying, but rather elegance, tradition, softness and highest quality standards.
For those of you in the Netherlands, some Suncatcher Eyes are now available on a local website. I am thrilled that Koekeridoo will be carrying Suncatcher Eyes.
If you haven't checked out Koekeridoo, please do. It's a fun site to visit even if you don't speak Dutch (you can use Google translate), and it's even better if you do speak Dutch :) Tess at Koekeridoo offers everything you could possibly want for amigurumi making, and she makes the most adorable amigurumi giraffe and cows!
I found the simple life ain't so simple
When I jumped out on that road
I got no love, no love you'd call real
Ain't got nobody waiting at home

I've got a new job. After five years in the Security Engineering and Communications group at Microsoft I'm moving to the Internet Explorer team where I'll be working with Eric Lawrence on the final stages of shipping IE8, and security features for IE9. I’m excited to get to really focus on developing technical skills and gain product experience! My last day in SECD will be Friday August 29th. Then I’m going to take a week off and take the motorcycle safety class I’ve been planning all summer, and start in IE on September 8th.

The September issue of Vogue, out on newsstands, features Karen Elson in her first solo cover.
The British model, who now lives in New York, is also an aspiring singer. She is known for her eyebrows and red hair.
She was discovered at the age of 16 in her hometown near Manchester, England. Soon she was off to London to start her modeling career. After little success there, she then moved to Paris. She was then sent to Tokyo where she booked some jobs. She then tried Milan before moving to New York just shy of her 18th birthday. She was living with Eileen Ford at the time when she met Steven Meisel. That meeting changed everything. He shot her spread in Italian Vogue, and shortly after she shaved her eyebrows and chopped her hair into a blunt cut.
This change of appearance landed her on the cover of Italian Vogue and she has not stopped working since.
